why i am so happy to be in SAF

as i was saying to a close a friend recently, i am now relatively content with my forced 2 year stint in the Singapore Armed Forces. as compared to the really deep shit that i would be in if i were in the israeli defence force. for singaporean soldiers (NSFs especially), the complaints are the usual stuff about book in timings, the seriously screwed up food, or the absolutely dreadful reveille timing of 0530 followed by a few lame exercises known as 5bx and then a run which back in 42 was truly horrifying (4.2 k b4 breakfast ouch ) but when u put it all in perspective, sg NSFs have it good
when i saw the picture in the newspaper a few days ago, the one with israeli soldiers cautiously making their way through a grass patch, it looks oh so familiar but at the same time so different. the webbing, the helmet (probably with stink included), the rifle and the rough dabbling of camo cream on their faces would be recognizable to any poor soul that have gone through BMT. what the heck, those who pass out from SISPEC ( train sergeants = poorly paid commanders) or OCS (overglorified school for overlypaid commanders haha) could probably guess wat kind of section drills or section movement they are carrying out. the only difference is that for them is real. they are firing live bullets others are firing live bullets at them and ya juz put yrself in their shoes.
ME: fuck lah, this fieldpack so heavy got signal set and bino and all other shit inside still must chiong here chiong there
poor Isreali soldier: ....
ME: chee bye, got cat 1 again, still want to do the stupid river crossing, go back got to clean the recce boat when then can book out ?
poor Isreali soldier:...
ME: this thing damn bo liao lah, do section movement for wat? in war juz shoot can already. sian later still must go beach road buy name tag and unit tab
poor Isreali soldier:.....
i dunno maybe isreali ppl are proud to fight for country or something but i juz think well maybe SAF aint so bad after all...
