Sunday, October 29, 2006 With a full day off and nothing much better to do, i went off to crash med fac on friday.(since that was when they had their anat pracs so i could take a look at their cadavers.) The lecture was fairly interesting with a guest speaker (a cardiac specialist) that showed some case studies complete with high-resolution videos and X-rays. I met up with quite a few familar faces when i was there, including jiang lei (since sispec haha) and wei sian. lucky bastards. uni life is like paradise compared to YOU-KNOW-WHAT. the cadavers were definitely not what i expected. instead of dead bodies, i get dead and decaying bodies with a overwhelming chemical smell (probably formalin). The cadavers were all cut up with the internal organs so the M1s can poke around and stick their hooks up whichever orifice catches their fancy :) the cadavers had their skin removed so as to expose their muscles and organs. the first thing that struck me when i saw the cadavers was how much their texture resembled that of chicken meat( like the strands on the chicken breast) ....oh nvm. we stuck around for quite a while and i learnt a little about hernia( which happens when your small intestine goes through some tube and ends up in your scrotum which is what the medics are looking out for when they ask ppl to strip and cough during the NS med examination)after that, it was vivo city to catch the departed, the remake of infernal affairs. it was hollywood through and through with loud and explosive gunfights, blistering wisecracks, and sex after every dinner. i thought it was pretty good even though the mood just didn't feel the same as infernal affairs. leonardo dicapro just didn't looked as desperate or crazy as the police mole in the original. the prestige was very entertaining too. too bad i couldn't figure out Borden's trick even though there were quite a few hints throughout the entire show. and what Angiers had to suffer everytime he performed his version of the Transported Man is fascinating. There was a scene at the end when one of the Angiers steps out of the cupboard and tries to stop the other Angier from shooting him with the gun that he had placed there himself. In his words, "I never know which of me comes out of the cupboard every night" |
