Sunday, February 25, 2007 Haizzzz another week passed. It was a jolly fun time though, as it should be! No more long breaks for... god knows how long. Playing mahjong, poker, free pool, gorging on sinful food(sausages wrapped with bacon should be banned :) ), watching way too much tube.I must confess to a horrible sin. This morning at 0530, after finishing my breakfast at Sungei Gedong 42 SAR cookhouse, I did something I terrible. A most heinous and abominable crime. I tried to drown a rat. The rodent was in a sticky situation. One way or another, it managed to get itself stuck in the barrel we army boys use to collect our used utensils.(disgusting) The rat was lucky that the water level was shallow. I was contemplating this interesting incident for a little while. Then I poured a cup of water into the barrel. The rat was panicking now. It started running back and forth, finding a way up. Then another cup, then another. By then the rat was fully submerged and for a brief moment, it ceased its struggles and sank beneath the surface. With a sudden burst, the rat emerged from the water, frantically kicking to stay afloat, still unwilling to meet the reaper. Unfortunately, one of the SFI personnel came over and unceremoniously dumped the contents of the barrel in the drain, giving the rat a new lease on life. The previous day, I found a dead bird on the parade square. I wouldnt have stepped within ten feet of the carcass if it wasnt for the damn BOS breathing down my neck abt the parade square being dirty. I gingerly scooped it into the dustpan before dashing off to dump the dead bird near a tree.(and covering it with lots of leaves so it can RIP rot in peace) It felt extremely unnerving to touch the dead bird, even if it was with a broomstick. There was no other place to get rid of the carcass unfortunately. If i dumped it in the bins, it would be a couple of days before it gets cleared. Alywyn(the previous COS) later told me that the bird dropped dead in the morning when he was doing his area cleaning. Of course he had just ran off and pretended not to see it, leaving me to do the diryt work. |
