Now the dice is cast. All that is left is to wait for the interview letters to arrive. I applied to both NUS and SMU, the former for Law and Biz and the later for Acc and Econs. NTU was totally left out because i do not really like the programme and environment there.

I believe I am more inclined to accept SMU over NUS because Acc and Econs appeal more to me than Law does. I would prefer to work with numbers and some equations rather than pure legalese. I hope to carve out a career in the banking and finance industry so I think SMU would be more relevant. SMU is also able to offer almost everyone who applies an overseas study programme, something that NUS with its massive undergrad pop simply cant.

However, as a school, I feel SMU is extremely focused on securing a job for its graduates, to the point of being a little excessive. From its Graduate Employment Survey to its internship programme to is overseas business study missions, SMU is all about getting you a career. I am not saying it is a bad thing but isn't an undergraduate life supposed to be about... well life? Where are the sports and recreation facilities? Where is the hall life? The CCA scene in SMU is pretty vibrant but it just doesnt feel the same. In my opinion, studying in SMU is kinda like taking a fast-forward, you skip past all the bits about being a student and get exposed to the business environment from Day 1. It may seem rather cold and clinical but I suppose since SMU is marketing itself as the business school in Singapore, it kinda fits the picture.
