What follows is a true encounter on the streets of our fair city.

On Saturday, after we finished a late screening of Paprika at Cathy, we were bumming around town trying to find a bus to get us back home. The incident happened at the bus stop just outside Hotel Rendezvous. A young man appeared from behind us and asked Junyang politely, "Wo Men Ge Yi Zuo Pen You Ma?"

Young Man.(probably early twenties). Pink Shirt. Effeminate Gesture and Speech. Nice Little Earring on Right Ear. This was more than enough warning for me.

Me To Junyang: "Do you know what's he saying?" TRANSLATION: We do NOT speak mandarin. We shall pretend we do NOT understand what he is saying. We will walk away quickly.

Junyang To Me: "Oh he is asking if we want to be friends."

Young Man: "Ge Yi Gei Mo Ni De Hao Ma?"

That was when the three of us dropped our excuse of having to look for a bus and made a quick run for it. Luckily neither the Young Man nor his compatriots made any further attempt to follow us. On the whole it was a rather interesting experience and it brought home the message that certain people tend to attract certain people of the other kind :)
